There was a time when the mere thought of taking a break felt like surrender, a silent admission of defeat or inability to keep up with life's relentless pace. But as I, Ruth Abigail aka Ra, have discovered and eagerly share with you this Freedom Friday on the UnlearntPpodcast, rest is not the end of activity but the beginning of rejuvenation. This episode is a heartfelt exploration of rest - a concept so often misunderstood and undervalued. Listen as I unravel my personal transformation, from viewing rest as idleness to recognizing it as an essential phase of preparation and reflection, much like nature's own rhythmic seasons that teach us the wisdom of balance between exertion and repose.
Together, we'll traverse the connection between diligent work and the profound beauty that comes with well-deserved rest, inspired by the ancient wisdom of biblical teachings. I delve into the sacredness of the Sabbath and the humbling realization that our labor bears fruit not solely through our efforts but through the grace of divine intervention. For anyone who's ever felt guilty for stepping away or struggled with the notion of resting, this conversation is an invitation to embrace humility, let go of the reins and learn to trust in forces greater than ourselves to magnify the work of our hands. Join me in redefining rest, not as a void of productivity, but as a sanctuary of potential, awaiting the touch of the divine to bring forth abundance.
Hello everybody and welcome once again to the Unlearned podcast. I am your host, ruth Abigail aka Ra, and this is Freedom Friday, where me and or me and a friend of mine come to you and share something we've unlearned recently and how it has made us just a little bit more free. So I've been on this rest kick lately and if you listened to last week's episode, it was all about rest and this idea of our lives a lot of times, mirroring the seasons and us being very aware of when it's time for us to rest versus when it's time for us to produce, and not using the resting season as a producing season because we won't have the energy we need to actually produce when it's time. Just like trees have to rest in the winter time to conserve their energy to produce in the spring, we have to rest at certain periods in our lives so that we can be prepared for the future production whenever that might come right. So we kind of have to know when is it time for me to stop and rest to conserve my energy and when is it time for me to produce, and so I have to unlearn that resting means uselessness. It actually is a sign of preparation so that I'm ready for whatever is coming next, where I will have to produce and go hard on something. So that's something I've been unlearning. I've also been unlearning this, and this is kind of a part two to that right, that rest is actually a beautiful thing after you have worked well. Rest is a beautiful thing after you've worked well. I'm going to use some Bible examples here. Right? So we see it in Genesis after God rested on the seventh day, he rested after he worked and then he rested and reflected on the seventh day, and he gives his people the same commandments. That's one of the commandments. Right Is rest on the Sabbath. So you work hard for six days and then you rest, you rest. There's also a verse in the New Testament I'm not sure where it is. I probably should have let that up before I got on the mic, but I didn't. But so look forward. If you want to Trust me, it's in there. It says that we some plant some water and God provides the increase. Right, this is again this idea of work, work, rest, because there's some things that we can do and some things we cannot do. Then we understand that work, good work, the work we're designed to do, the work that we're called to do, the work that we're built to do, comes before rest, then that makes that rest a lot more sweet. It makes the rest a lot more. It really adds to it. Right, it adds to the rest, and we don't wanna take away from the opportunity to not just rest and reflect, but also allow God to do what he's supposed to do in our lives, right In with the work that we've put in, with the work that we've put in. So when it says that some plants some water, so we have really two jobs. We can plant the seed, prepare the ground, water the seed, nurture it, make sure it's taken care of, but the thing that we absolutely cannot do is control the conditions or the environment in which the seed grows and multiplies. That's where rest comes in, that's where God comes in, that's where things that are outside of our control come in, so that we are doing our part and then we rest and allow God to do God's part. And I think that that is also what I'm unlearning about rest is that it is a beautiful thing. It's not just necessary, but it's beautiful because it gives me an opportunity to humble myself and watch God do what he does best with what it is that I've already put into the ground. And so if you again are like me and you struggle with resting, then I think both of you and I have to be honest and say some of the struggle with rest has to do with the struggle with pride, has to do with a struggle of not being as humble as we know we should, because it makes this assumption that we have the ability to control all the conditions that make something work, and we don't. We have a part to play, and then there are other things that have to happen that we have no control over, and so if we continue to put in energy in a place that we actually have no control, we're not only wasting energy, we're also operating from a prideful mentality and thinking more highly of ourselves than we should, which is something that I absolutely struggle with. And so I wanna encourage you to know that your ability to rest is also your ability to stay humble. It is also your ability to let go of pride and to say I've planted, I've watered, and now I'm waiting for the conditions to be right, for the environment to be set for multiplication and for increase and for growth. All things I can't control. I can only do what I can do, and then it's my job to rest and let God do what God can do. That's what I'm unlearning, and so it is going to be a season of rest for your girl because I have to unlearn that I know that I have put in the work I've put in. You know that you've put in the work you've put in, and now sit down, chill, rest, let God do what he does. All right, bet, that is all. That's all I have this week. Until next week, let's keep unlearning together so that we can experience more freedom. See you next. Freedom Friday peace. ["fearless"]. Thank you once again for listening to the Unlearned podcast.
