Ever crashed and burned in a video game, only to restart from the last checkpoint? Imagine if we applied the same concept to our lives.
This episode is a lesson in resilience, urging us to keep going even when we feel defeated. We discuss how failures and mistakes are not the end, but rather opportunities for learning and growth as we continue our journey. Drawing from the notion of 'starting over', we share a recent unlearning experience that made us understand life better.
Hello everybody and welcome once again to the online podcast. I am your host, ruth Abigail, aka RA, and this is a podcast that is helping you gain the courage to change your mind so that you can experience more freedom. And you have entered once again into freedom Fridays, which is when me, or me and one of my friends shares with you something we've unlearned recently and how it has made us just a little bit more free. So when I was a kid, I liked video games, and some of my favorite video games were Cruising USA and Mario Kart. I was the best in my house at both. My brother might disagree with that, but I was. I was, and it was very, very hard to beat. I loved those games. I loved racing games, and one of the things that is the most satisfying thing is to get to the finish line Right, and so you want to get to the finish line the fastest. That's the way the game goes, and sometimes I think it's very easy to transfer that mentality to life and really be obsessed with getting to a finish line. But something I've had to unlearn recently is that in life, the finish line, the only finish line, is death. That sounds a little morbid, but it's true, like there is no finish line before death. Every other point that you come to is a checkpoint. So in these video games, racing games, there's a checkpoint and the checkpoint, depending on the game, either you, if you like, crash, then you can, you always start back at the checkpoint, you don't start back at the beginning. Or, you know, if you get past the checkpoint, you get a little bit more time added to your added, added to the game, right. And so the checkpoint is the are the midpoints where you want to hit Right. Getting the checkpoint is really kind of a sign that you're going in the right direction. And I think sometimes, like we have to shift our mentality from looking for the finish line to looking at checkpoints, right. So there are moments and I don't know if you feel this, I feel this there are moments where I crash and burn and it's like what happened and I beat myself up and I get frustrated and a lot of times I just want to stop, like I just want to turn the game off and like forget it, I can't, I can't get it. But that's because I'm overly obsessed with this finish line mentality. If I start obsessing over checkpoints, then it gives me small wins along the way. When you're starting at checkpoint, you're actually-. The cool thing is, you're not starting over at the beginning, you're starting over in the middle. You're starting over in the middle. When you start over in the middle, especially if you've gone past the checkpoint and then something happened you crashed, you went off course, whatever right you get to start back at the checkpoint. And then the beauty of starting back in the middle is that you're starting back with new knowledge and new awareness that you can apply and keep applying until you get to the next checkpoint. Whatever we crash and burn, go off course in life and something right that could be your job, that could be education, that could be just decisions you make throughout life, that could be in relationships. That could be with your family, with your kids, with your spouse, with your friends. That could be anything right we will go off course, but when we do, don't get discouraged. Don't allow the feeling of crashing and burning Stop you from starting back at your checkpoint, because every time you crash and burn, you learn something new. Every time you go off course, you learn something new and you can apply that when you get the opportunity to get back up. I think that one of the most powerful things that we can learn how to do is to start over in the middle. One of the most powerful things we can learn how to do is to start over in the middle, because when you start over in the middle, the middle of the journey is always the hardest part. If you can learn how to start over in the middle of your journey, then you will have a much better chance of that journey really becoming more enjoyable the longer you're on it, because you've discovered what it takes to recover when you feel like you crash and burn. So I just that's something that I'm unlearning, that's something I've had to unlearn recently is that when I crash, burn, go off course. That it's not. I don't have to start over at the beginning. I'm starting over in the middle. I'm starting over at my checkpoint and my job is to learn and then apply in the middle of the journey so that I can keep going and keep moving forward. So I hope that helps. I know things can get difficult. We make mistakes. We're always going to do that, but mistakes don't have to defeat us. We get to. We always. We always get an opportunity to get back on course. So I'm going to get back on course. So that is it. That is it. That is your rendition of freedom Friday, today. Let's keep unlearning. Let's keep getting more free. Be sure to tune in to our series, upcoming series, unlearning politics where we're going to drop them in about a week or so, and so that's really interesting have some really really cool conversations. All right, so that's it. Let's keep unlearning together so that we can live more free Peace. Thank you once again for listening to the unlearned podcast.
